Alright, it's time for this week's progress update!
We are approximately 18 days into the 6 week Biggest Loser Bootcamp Contest at Jimmy Lee's Total Fitness!
The results are starting to be noticeable! My wife has actually more than doubled my weight loss, but she doesn't really like me mentioning much about her progress, so we'll leave it at that!
I am getting closer and closer to my weight loss goal of 180lbs, a weight I haven't seen since I was 20yrs old! If you remember, I started the contest with an official weigh-in of 205.4lbs on July 5th, and set my goal of losing 25lbs, and reaching 180lbs. Last week's weigh-in was 199lbs. Well, this morning, I weighed in at 194.8lbs, making my official weight loss 10.6lbs! I am less than 15lbs from my 6 week goal!

Take Shape for Life & Kangen Water

The First, is Kangen Water
Water is the single most important resource for the human body. Water is the most essential nutrient involved in every function of the body. Water accounts for approximately 70% of an individual’s complete fat free body mass. In order to function properly, water must be consumed in set quantities in consistent intervals (average of 2.5 liters per day). When not enough water is consumed, people can begin to develop certain illnesses and even accelerate their aging processes.
Now after establishing the importance of water, one must then think what kind of water is good to drink? Many people believe that the water concentrations in coffee, sodas, and energy drinks will be sufficient for the human body to function on optimal levels; but that is incorrect. Simply stated, the water from these beverages is nothing but poor quality distilled water.
Kangen water is being recognized by more and more people around the world as the purest and healthiest water for the human body. As more and more people have been seeing the benefits of this water, Kangen has gained a vast amount of ground in the health world to become one of Japan’s newest and most popular household names. This delicious water is rich in minerals, purged of free radicals by way of ionization, and can be used in countless ways outside of everyday water drinking.
I have personally been drinking Kangen Water for about a week, and have noticed significant improvements in Energy, and mental focus. To learn more about Kangen Water, please click here.
The 2nd is Take Shape for Life, a program of health coaching, centered around MediFast meals. This program has been clinically proven to not only help you take weight off, but to keep it off, permanently! There are free classes at Jimmy Lee's Total Fitness every Tuesday @ 7pm, and Saturday @ 10pm, to help you get started! Again, I am just starting my journey with this system, as well, and will be blogging my results, as we go along!

Day 4 Workout - July 8th
Decided to do another two-a-day workout today. I started by going to Jimmy Lee's after I dropped my wife off at work. Had a planned meeting with Dr. Michael & Teresa Loveless of the Your Water for Health Kangen water team. However, they were not there, yet, so I decided to work out, first.
I started with a 10 minute warmup on the treadmill, just to get the blood pumping.
Then I moved on to some biceps work.
- 3 sets of dumbbell curls. 8 reps at 35 lbs.
- Then, 3 sets of what I call Shoulder rotations.
- I use 1 45 lb plate.
- I grip it with one hand on either side, basically at 9 & 3 on the clock.
- I then start with it behind my head, and start rotating the weight clockwise around my upper body, basically going around my left shoulder, in front of my face, around my right shoulder, and back behind my head.
- 8 times clockwise, then reverse & do 8 times counterclockwise.
- 3 sets of 2 handed preacher curls. 8 reps at 55lbs
- 3 sets of 2 handed French Curls. 10 reps with a 50lb straight bar.
- 3 sets of Dumbbell Hammer Curls. Burn down style, starting at 30lbs, doing as many reps as I can, then, without resting between, moving to 25lbs and again doing as many reps as I can, then moving down to 20lbs, then 15lbs, 12lbs, 10lbs, and finishing with 8lbs. Repeat 3 times. REALLY FEEL THE BURN!!
- Finally, 2 handed curls 3sets with a 50lb straight bar. 12 reps per set.
- and, for good measure, 3 sets of Triceps pull downs 10 reps & 120lbs.
That concludes my morning workout.
When I was finished, the Loveless' had arrived, so I spent about an hour talking to them, and decided to take their 30day Kangen Water Challenge. I am going to drink Kangen water, exclusively for the next 30 days, and I will report on any noticeable changes.
Alright! Time for Biggest Loser Class! Thursday evening at 630pm
Today's instructor was Sheree. She specializes in Yoga & Pilates, and her classes are more strength based than some of the others, which focus more on cardio. Although, all three of the instructors i have worked with this week, really pounded the legs, shoulders, core, and cardio. These classes have been fantastic!
Sheree started us with some basic step aerobics.
- Simple right and left UpDowns, then Wide step UpDowns, then alternating step knee kicks.
- once we had gotten sufficiently warmed up, we moved to some squats, and lunges.
- Then we moved on to some pushups, and plank position exercises
- then, back to our feet for more steps.
- then plyometrics. Jumping Jacks, Squat Jumps, and Lunge Jumps
- back to more pushups, downward facing dog, upward facing dog, & stick position
- finally, ABs! Crunches, leg lifts, and Bicycles.
Today was a terrific workout, and a great day overall! If you're thinking about starting a weight-loss or fitness program, I highly recommend that you come on out to Jimmy Lee's Total Fitness, and join the Biggest Loser 6 week Challenge!

Day 3 Workout

Since yesterday was such an intense day, and we have classes again tomorrow, today we went fairly light.
We started this morning, with our morning routine of Tennis at GW Roland Park in Coweta. It was a little tough, with the soreness in our legs and shoulders from yesterday's workouts, but we persevered, and made it thru thirty minutes.
After tennis, we came home, and I did today's Perfect Pushup Routine, which i have been doing for a little over one month. Today, was actually Day 5 of my 2nd cycle thru. The way it works, is on day one, you do one set of pushups using the Perfect Pushup handles. You do as many as you can, maintaining perfect form. Then, based upon that number, your routine is set for the 17 day cycle. This cycle, my max was 22, so I am using the Routine settings for 20. That means that every exercise is done with a 2 minute routine of 14, 10, and 6 reps. Day 5, is 1 set of Regular width, 1 set of Wide grip, and 1 Narrow grip. These REALLY work! I highly recommend them!
I did not go to the gym twice today, as I mentioned before, this was a light day. So, after I picked Dawn up from work, we headed over to Jimmy Lee's to put in a little work.
We started with a 15 minute Calorie Burner on the Treadmill. We followed that with 3 sets of crunches on the abs machine. And finished up with some bench presses (185 lbs, since I didn't have a spotter), and Chest Fly.
And, that's all! Like I said, just a light workout today. Back to the hardcore stuff tomorrow!
Remember, we didn't get out of shape in one day, and we're not going to get thin in one day! Patience, perseverance, and determination are the tools that will help us to achieve our goals!

As you can see, we are cutting the carbs, fat, and calories, while INCREASING the Protein intake. you have to FEED the muscles, in order for them to grow. Most DIETS, miss the boat on the protein, which forces the body into starvation mode. This menu, allows your body to be in a calorie deficit, while continuing to feed the muscles, which should (in theory), speed up the metabolism, and thereby the fat burning!
*******************************UPDATE******************************************
Based on further research, I will be reducing the Carbs of the morning smoothie, by at least one serving. Will probably rotate the fruits, rather than adding all of them each morning.
********************************UPDATE 2****************************************
Added a small snack after we got home!

Days 1 & 2 Of Jimmy Lee's Biggest Loser Bootcamp

Yesterday, July 5th, we started our Journey by weighing in, and having our measurements taken. I don't remember all of my measurements, but the important ones are, as follows"
- Weight - 205.6 lbs
- Body Fat Percentage - 25.4%
- Body Mass Index - 31.9
Ok, those numbers SUCK! Especially since I have actually been working out and eating better for about a month, already! I am not happy, AT ALL! But, that's why I'm here! I will lift weights, and do sit-ups, on my own, but I just won't do Cardio. I NEED someone to push me!
We got weighed in, but the next class was still 5 hours away. So, we decided to workout on our own for an hour. We went to the back room, and started by doing some biceps curls.
- I did 3 sets of 12, with 25lbs. for each arm.
- Then we moved on to shoulder presses. Again, 3 sets of 12, this time with 35lbs.
- Next, Front & side Shoulder raises, with 12lbs. 3 sets of 8
- Then, squats, with a Large Exercise Ball behind my back. 20 reps, then 20 reps with a 2 second pause at the bottom, then 1 30 second hold. (OUCH!)
- Next, offset squats, with one foot on a higher plane than the other. 20 reps both left & right.
- After that, 10 squats balancing on a half-ball, while front shoulder pressing 10 lbs in each hand.
- Finally, crunch machine with 40lbs, 3 sets of 20.
- (whew!)
Ok, it's 130, and class starts at 430pm. what to do next. I know, let's go play Tennis!! So, we drove over to La Fortune Park, and played Tennis for about 30 minutes on the Memorial High School tennis Courts.
Back to Jimmy Lee's! Time for the first class of Bootcamp!! Fired Up!!
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I knew I was going to hurt! Turns out, I was RIGHT! One full hour of Cardio, and total body training! We hit EVERYTHING!! Biceps, Triceps, Chest, Abs, Back, and LEGS, LEGS, LEGS!!!! Squats, Lunges, Plie's, Step Training, Kicks, you name it! By the end, we were exhausted!!
After we finished up, we headed home to Coweta. I thought we were finished, but my wife turned to me and said, "How about some more tennis?" So, we stopped over at GW Roland Park in Coweta, and played another half-hour of tennis. Finally, we were DONE. Time to go home. Wow! What a first day!!

Day 2 July 6th, 2010
- We started our morning at 530am. Get up, get stretched, have a Protein Smoothie (Half Grapefruit, Half Green Apple, 1 Banana, 2-3 ounces of Blueberries, 2 scoops Mango Pineapple Protein Powder, half cup of Non-Fat Plain Yogurt, 1/2 cup of Cranberry Juice) for Breakfast. {295 Calories, 52g carbohydrates, < 1g fat, 25g Protein)
- 615am Time for Tennis!! Back over to Roland Park for 30 minutes of Tennis with my wonderful wife! We're not very good, but we have fun! We also walked the track around the Tennis Courts before we played. It's only about a 5 minute walk, but it's a good warmup!
- Ok, back to the house to get ready for the day. my wife got ready for work, while I packed our meals for the day.
- 4oz of Salmon, a Small Salad, One hard boiled Egg, and half a baked potato, for Lunch
- a Kashi Honey Almond Flax Bar for mid Morning Snack
- A handful of Carrots for a mid afternoon snack
- a Kashi Cookie ( Oatmeal Raisin) for Midafternoon Snack
- a Kashi Crunchy granola bar for Pre workout
- a Chocolate Protein Shake for Post workout
- Approximately 1300 Calories Today. I will Post a better, more complete menu, in my July 7th, Post.
Ok, off to work! Drop my wife off, and head on over to Jimmy Lee's. There is a 930am class that I want to try out!
I get to the Gym around 9am, and decide to warm up with a 10 minute walk on the treadmill at 3.5mph on the Fat Burner interval.
Next, it was time for the morning class! The class was similar to the one from the day before, in that we hit all of the muscle groups, while focusing on Cardio. However, it was done a little differently. We did 8 sets of each exercise, but not a certain number of reps. Instead, we did the exercise for 20 seconds, with a 10 second rest between each set. This was an EXTEMELY hard class, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This one REALLY hit the shoulders, and legs! When this one was over, I really felt like I had a good workout!
So, with several hours until my wife got off work, I stopped to talk to the lady who sets up the Kangen Water Filtering at Jimmy Lee's. Kangen Water is:
Dating back to its roots in Japan, Kangen Water
essentially means “return to origin”. Because this
beautiful world of ours has been polluted and
soiled with human waste, the human body has not
been able to reach optimal growth potential.
Medical studies have long recognized the
devastating effects of high levels of acidity in our
bodies. Kangen Water has a pH of 8.5 -11.0 which
would then make this water basic or an alkaline. In
addition to Kangen waters pH level, tests have
also shown a negative ORP (oxidizing reduction
potential) rating. Kangen water is perhaps the
most effective anti-oxidant and its negative ORP
rating further proves that hypothesis. Anti-oxidants
can help balance out some of these acids and
restore the body to equilibrium or its “original
state” as it should be, where we can all grow and
flourish.
I'm very interested in this, and may add this into my regimen. If anyone has had an experience with Kangen, please comment below, and tell me about it!
From here, I went over to my "office away from the office", aka Agora Coffee Shop, to have some coffee, and get a little work done.
At 5pm I picked my wife up from work, and headed back to Jimmy Lee's for our evening class. (Yes, I know it's probably not wise to do two cardio classes in one day). We thought the class started at 6, so we were hurrying. Unfortunately, the light was out at Memorial and Hwy 160, so we were really pushing up against the clock, by the time we arrived! We hurried in, and while my wife was changing, I got on the treadmill for a quick warmup. When she was finished changing, we still had about 5 minutes, so she got on the treadmill, as well. When we finished, we rushed back to the training area, only to find out that we had looked at the wrong day on the calendar, and class didn't start until 630! Oh,well, more time to stretch!!!!
While we were stretching, others started showing up for the class, and low and behold, another guy! WOOHOO! I'm not the only male doing these classes. Now I only feel like a partial freak!!
This class actually ended up being very well attended, with about 12 people lining up to have their butts kicked!!
This class was run a little differently than the morning class, but still focused on cardio, legs, and shoulders.
MAN! My legs and shoulders were getting TIRED!! But, i made it all the way through the hour, without having to give up! Two classes in one day! I'm AWESOME! (and i'm going to pay for it in the morning!!)
Day 2, in the books!
Think Thin Thoughts!!!!!!!

This blog will be chronicling my journey from my current weight of 205 lbs, and Body Mass Index(BMI) of 31.4, to (hopefully), my goal weight of 175 lbs, and a healthy BMI of less than 20! My long-term goal (win or lose), is to compete in a Triathlon next year!
In addition to the workout regimen, which I will be chronicling here, we have also committed to a low calorie, low carb, low fat, and high protein diet, which requires 6 small meals a day. So, for those who want to follow along, I will also be posting our daily menu here, with Calorie, Carb, Fat, and Protein counts.
So, get your sweats, your sneakers, and your lifting gloves, and get ready to FEEL THE BURN!
P.S. I will post my "before" picture, tonight or tomorrow. Just be warned, it ain't pretty!
